Like the others, the date of March 3 is special for the Catholic Church, since it commemorates the life and testimony of many saints and blessed who gave glory to God with their faith, their love and their martyrdom. But what are the saints that are celebrated this March 3, 2024?
Among the saints this day commemorates the saints Marinus and Asterius of Caesareaas well as the saints Emeterio and Celedonio de Calahorra. But are not the only ones. We will talk about all of them below:
Saints Marinus and Asterius of Caesarea, martyrs
Marino was a soldier cristiano from an important family from Caesarea of Palestine. He was going to be promoted to centurion, but a rival betrayed him for being a Christian and not wanting to worship the emperor. The governor Achaeus called him and asked him to renounce his faith or his office. Marino refused to do so and said that he only believed in Christ. The governor gave him three hours to think about it better. Upon leaving, Bishop Teotecno took him to the church.
There, the bishop showed him the book of the Gospels and the sword that Marino had. He told her to choose one of the two. Marino chose the book of the Gospels. The bishop told him: «Trust in God and ask him to help you achieve what you have chosen. Go in peace.” Marino returned to court and repeated that he was a Christian. He was sentenced to death and his head was cut off, thus he became a martyr. starfisha Christian senator who was a friend of the emperor, saw the martyrdom of Marinus and took pity on him. She covered the martyr's body with his mantle and buried him.
Saints Emeterio and Celedonio de Calahorra, soldiers and martyrs
Emeterio and Celedonio were two Roman soldiers (probably brothers) who professed Christianity. During the persecution of Diocletian, they were detained in Calahorra, where they were subjected to various tortures. so that they would renounce their faith. However, they stood firm and confessed Christ as their only Lord. Finally, they were beheaded outside the city, in the place called the Mount of Martyrs. According to tradition, their heads rolled into the Ebro River and were picked up by angels who took them to Santander, where their relics are venerated.
Saints Cleonicus and Eutropius of Amasea, martyrs
Los Holy Martyrs Eutropius, Basilicus and Cleonicus were martyred in the city of Amasia del Pontus (Asia Minor) around the year 308. The brothers Eutropius and Cleonicus and the nephew of the Holy Martyr Megalo Theodore of Tirone (February 17) Basiliscus were friends.
After the martyrdom of Saint Theodore, they were also in prison, and their preaching led many of the pagans who were with them in prison to the Christian faith. When Saint Theodore's torturer, Publius, was ignominiously murdered, struck by the wrath of God, he appointed Asklepiodotus governor of Amasia of Pontus, not inferior in cruelty to his predecessor. When he learned that the friends of the martyr Theodore were still in prison, the governor ordered them to be brought before him. Before the new trial, Eutropius, Basiliscus and Cleonicus firmly confessed their faith in Christ. Then they were tortured mercilessly, until their bodies were completely destroyed.
San Ticiano de Brescia, obispo
There is little information about this bishop of Brescia, from whom many others have come in the history of the Church. It's known that He lived at the end of the 5th century. He tried to restore what the Barbarians had devastated, like Pope Saint Simplicio. He was buried in the church of Saint Cosmas and Damian, which he himself had ordered to be built. A monastery was soon built next to it.
Later, in 1202, Bishop Berardo Maggi ordered everything to be demolished to expand the Broletto Palace. Now it is the Piazza del Duomo. The church and monastery were redone on the west side of the city, in the Lower Fields area where they still stand. They removed his relics. AND Bishop Paolo Zane, in 1505, made a marble ark in the chapel on the left. There they are now. His original sarcophagus is today in the fountain in Tito Speri Square.
