The Vox Parliamentary Group in the Valencian Cortes has complained to the Government of Spain, chaired by the socialist Pedro Sanchezwhich fully assumes the construction costs not subsidized by European funds incurred by the Oropesa-Cabanes, Moncófar and Sagunto desalination plants, “just as it does in Catalonia.”
Vox's claim to the Government of Pedro Sánchez has occurred through a Non-Law Proposal (PNL) presented by the aforementioned parliamentary group before the Valencian Courts through his deputy Ana Bellver.
In this non-legal proposition, Santiago Abascal's party defends, in relation to this issue, that “equal treatment must be given throughout Spain.” And, he also maintains that the Government of Pedro Sánchez «has assumed the cost of desalination plants in Catalonia and other places in Spainbut not like this in the province of Castellón», already in the Valencian Community, where “it is expected that the amount of 116 million euros” for these desalination plants “will have to be paid by the town councils of Moncofar, Xilxes, Benicassim, Oropesa and Cabanes.”
The Vox Parliamentary Group considers that this is “one more example of the submission of the Government of the nation to Catalan separatism“, because “not only will it assume the 500 million euros of capital of the two new desalination plants in Catalonia, but it will transfer its ownership to the autonomous water management body.”
Furthermore, Vox demands that the Government of Spain also assume the maintenance expenses of these three desalination plants in the Valencian Community, those for the production of desalinated water and the future pipelines to other locations. And it also demands that a study be carried out that analyzes “the alternative uses” that the Oropesa-Cabanes and Moncófar desalination plants can be given to guarantee their profitability for the future.
