Born like a miniseriesbut its success was so surprising that HBO could not refuse to produce a second season. Big Little lies landed on the streaming platform in 2017, causing a great sensation through a powerful casting of actresses led by Nicole Kidman. Created by David E. Kelley and directed by the late filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallé, this feminist story was structured around the mysterious death of the Australian actress's character's husband. This one, she lives with a group of mothers in a small town in northern California. Reese WitherspoonShailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård y Adam Scott, they created a main cast that was expanded with the presence of Meryl Streep in the second season. A continuation that has not gone beyond that premiere in 2019 and that since then has been positioned as a finished series. However, someone very close to Kidman's environment has caused the Oscar winner to now want to bring us a third season.
The person in question is the actress's teenage daughter, who at the end of the second season began to ask questions about the future of her mother's character. Celeste Wright. That's when the protagonist realized that she had to continue with the project and film a third season.
“My daughter was the one who watched both seasons and said 'Okay, there's no question, there has to be a third.' She said 'Celeste can't handle it in the second one, what is she doing?'”the actress told him Moulin Rogue to the magazine Elle. Furthermore, Kidman believes that the conclusion of the second season came together as a natural opportunity to revisit the characters in a new moment in their lives: “There is the richness of the stories, which we had always discussed, but I needed time because the next chapter in the lives of these women and their children has truly incredible depth. Because children grow and that is something fascinating.”
'Big Little Lies': A continuation that is not news
It is not the first time that a hypothetical continuation of Big Little Lies. At the end of last year, Nicole Kidman assured that she had already begun to develop a third season for the series, along with his partner Witherspoon. A project that is still underdeveloped to be able to offer a narrative approach about where the story will continue. However, several members of the team have taken advantage of many promotions and interviews to express their excitement for the return of the drama series.
The main problem that the series faces is that its stars have a fairly tight schedule, since coordinating the schedules of several top-level actors is never an easy task. Luckily for the project, the friendship that developed during the filming of the first two seasons motivated the intention to include everyone in the future third session of episodes. “I think when they're all spread out and they never cross paths, it's very, very different. But when they are all still very intertwined, that is what makes it feasible, because there is a will and they want to spend time together.”Kidman finished explaining.
A series full of awards
Big Little Liesafter Game of Thrones y Succession, has been one of HBO's most praised fictions and this has translated on more than one occasion with nominations and awards in the main competitions. 2017 was her big year, even though The Handmaid's Tale was positioned as the big winner that night at the Emmys.
