The Venezuelan opposition has denounced this Wednesday that members of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) have surrounded the national headquarters of Vente Venezuela, the party of the unity candidate for the presidential elections in Venezuela, this Wednesday. This comes after Venezuela's attorney general, Tarek Willian Saabannounced in a press conference the arrest of Henry Alviárez and Dinorah Hernández, national coordinator and political secretary of Vente Venezuela, respectively.
The drug dictator of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, who came to power in 2013, will be the official candidate for the presidential elections, in which he intends to secure a third term. The opposition chose Machado in primaries as a unitary candidate, but it is unknown if he will finally participate in the elections due to a 15-year disqualification imposed by the Chavista regime.
Arrests of opponents
The Attorney General of Venezuela, Tarek Willian Saab, announced this Wednesday the arrest of Henry Alviárez and Dinorah Hernández, national coordinator and political secretary of Vente Venezuela. The attorney general has explained that Emill Brandt Ulloa, head of Machado's campaign in Barinas and state coordinator of Vente Venezuela – who was arrested in early March – revealed during an interrogation that there was a “structured and organized plan” to “subdue the country to new days of violence” in the middle of the electoral period.
“The detainee states that last December 6 in Caracas, Magaly Meda and Henry Alviárez gave instructions on the destabilizing actions that they had to initiate to force the authorization of María Corina Machado,” he detailed in a press conference. Specifically, this plan to “destabilize the country, agglomerate the masses using unions and students in order to encourage a military wing to attack” the State was coordinated by Dinorah Hernández, political secretary of Vente Venezuela.
The attorney general has also reported an arrest warrant against Oswaldo Bracho, Pedro Urruchurtu, Omar González Moreno, Humberto Villalobos, Claudia Macero, Fernando Martínez Mottola and the aforementioned Magaly Meda, campaign manager of the opposition.
Machado has announced that “the regime” led by the president, Nicolás Maduro, has unleashed a “brutal repression” against his campaign team. “These cowardly actions aim to close Venezuela's path towards change and freedom in peace and democracy,” he indicated.
