The La Caixa Foundation awarded this Tuesday in Barcelona 105 new doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships to researchers to carry out their projects in more than 60 research centers and universities in Spain and Portugal.
The objective is to retain and attract talent to promote research in these countries, which is why the deputy general director of the Foundation, Elisa Durán, explained in the Cosmocaixa Science Museum that reaffirm their commitment “to excellent education and research.”
The entity will allocate nearly 21 million euros to the Inphinit doctoral program and the Junior Leader postdoctoral program, which are co-financed by the European Commission through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Cofund Actions of the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.
Of the 1,636 applications for the doctoral program, the foundation has awarded 65 scholarships of 120,900 euros for a duration of 3 years, while 40 scholarships of 305,100 euros for 3 years have been awarded for the postdoctoral program, which received 547 applications.
There are 49 Spanish researchers and 56 foreigners from 21 countries, the majority from Italy (16), Portugal (9), Germany (6) and the United States (4), and they will develop projects in areas such as theoretical physics and mathematics, science environmental, materials technology and biomedical engineering.
The Foundation has highlighted that these doctoral scholarships aim to reinforce scientific communication, researcher well-being, leadership and funding opportunities, while postdoctoral scholarships promote innovation and independent careers as a future option in health sciences, technology , physics, engineering and mathematics.
