One of the most necessary tasks that members of the Royal family must be developed so that citizens feel that their members are aware of their problems is to show their closeness with those who suffer the most, the most disadvantaged, those who are not always assisted to alleviate their situation. This week, the Kings Felipe and Letizia They have shown that they take very seriously this role of accompanying people who have had to endure very painful losses, or those who have managed to use the new name with which they are recognized to serve to strengthen their dignity as a group.
The palpable demonstration that the royal couple wanted to be close to the victims of the devastating attack on March 11, 2004 was not only their participation in the institutional event organized by the European Commission and the Spanish Government in the Royal Collections Gallery, but also the talk that the Kings had with the victims selected to take part in the commemoration of the 20 anniversary of 11M. And of course, the words spoken by the King: the victims of terrorism are an ethical reference in our democratic systems and human values. With their integrity and dignity, they are the ones who best represent both the greatness of democracy, its strength, and the determination to advance peaceful coexistence.
Another moment in which the Crown has shown its closeness to those who suffer has been the delivery ceremony of the Human Rights Award King of Spain, which this year reaches its ninth edition, and which was held once again at the University of Alcalá de Henares. Don Felipe has presented the award to the group of Families United for Our Disappeared of Jalisco, represented by its coordinator Guadalupe Aguilar. They are a group of people who work hard to clarify the circumstances of the 15,000 people missing in that Mexican state and that affect 400 families who have seen in despair how their relatives have vanished from one day to the next without clarifying their whereabouts. Don Felipe praised the work done by this group, which not only recognizes its achievements, but also reinforces the award's commitment to the values of justice and solidarity. During the event, there was direct contact between the King and the coordinator in which he thanked her for her great humanitarian work.
There was also attention from the Kings towards the components of a delegation of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with disabilities, after article 49 of the Constitution has been reformed in the Congress of Deputies. The attendees, who bring together people from all over Spain, gave Mr. Felipe and Mrs. Letizia the new text of the law in the different accessible formats so that no person with a disability is excluded from knowing the new precept. People with each of the disabilities have given the Kings the text in braille, sign language, easy reading and pictograms. An achievement of a social nature that satisfies a sector of the population that the Kings wanted to share with those affected.
