The Dutch company Slimdesign does not produce products itself, but develops solutions to sell to others. According to the company, the companies for or with which Slimdesign developed include Panasonic, Dyson, Philips and Samsung. And the body camera that the Dutch police use originally came from Slimdesign, founder Wouter Konings told c't. Now the Dutch are showing a new product at MWC that aims to make the idea of a video camera that can be worn on clothing accessible to a wider audience.

According to Slimdesign, the “world's first affordable, miniaturized AI body camera” with the project name “Phone Cam” is initially aimed at professional groups such as bus drivers, but could ultimately be marketed as a video camera for everyone. In fact, according to Konings, the idea for the product came about after his son was attacked by strangers in a park. When a friend of the son then pulled out his cell phone to capture the situation on video, the situation escalated.
The mini-body presented in Barcelona is put into standby mode at the push of a button and starts recording at the push of another button – in 1080p resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) with 25 to 30 frames per second, including sound. The video data is transmitted to the smartphone via an encrypted connection, although Slimdesign remains silent about the wireless protocol used.
If you press the button on the camera again, the upload of the recording from the smartphone to the cloud is initiated. The different operating modes are signaled with different colors or a flashing LED ring on the camera.
Of course, the reference to AI should not be missing at MWC 2024. In this specific case, according to Konings, this could mean, for example, that the mini body camera could be used abroad to have foreign language texts translated into the camera's field of view while shopping. However, the company that wants to buy the development is not given any specifications, but rather provides AI building blocks with which any AI functions can be developed.
According to Slimdesign, the mini body camera could be offered at a price of around 70 euros. Of course, this does not mean that a buyer of the development will not ask for more (or less) for it later.
