The Monestir de Poblet-Aparicio Albiñana commission, better known as L'Antiga de Campanar, has won the first prize in the Special section of the Fallas of this 2024, thanks to the monument by Josué Beitia, who participated for the first time in this section, which has as its motto Climate change. In it, the artist Josué Beitia makes reference to environmental problems and represents the four seasons of the year and the changes that nature is undergoing, which increasingly blur spring and autumn. The failure also highlights the impact of pollution and torrential rains. Beitia is also the author of the pardoned dollthe one that will be saved from the flames, with a scene of a grandfather and his granddaughter in the l'Antiga horchatería, which will become part of the collection of the Faller Museum of Valencia.
The falla, which had a budget of 170,000 euros, was built in the same neighborhood where on February 22, 10 people died in a building fire.
Beitia's proposal addresses the effects of climate change such as pollution, as well as the disappearance of spring and autumn in favor of a winter and summer that “gain strength.” A contrast that the fallero artist has achieved with “the play of cold and warm colors”, as pointed out by the commission's senior fallera, Lucía Marín, in statements to Europa Press this past week.
The second prize went to Exposició-Misser Mascó, with the falla of the artist David Sánchez Llongo, and the third place for the falla Plaza del Pilar with the work of the artisan Paco Torres.
This was announced by the president of the Fallera Central Board (JCF) and Fallas councilor, Santiago Ballester, during the reading of the awards for the large Fallas, held late this Saturday from the headquarters of the autonomous municipal body.
As for the prizes for ingenuity and grace in the Special section, the first went to Sueca-Literat Azorín, the second went to Regne de València-Duc de Calàbria and the third, to Cuba-Literat Azorín.
