According to the latest housing census published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the number of households living in rentals has experienced an increase of 19.25% between 2011 and 2021, reaching 16.5%. Over the past two decades, rent growth has been 41%.
In this context, the housing market in Spain has experienced a worrying rise in prices, which has generated concern among many families. To alleviate the difficulties faced by many households, the Government of Spain has implemented a series of measures, such as the Young Rental Bonus and the State Housing Plan 2022-2025.
Housing rental assistance
The State Housing Plan 2022-2025 contemplates aid aimed at people who live under a rental regime. This benefit can reach up to 50% of the rental price, depending on individual circumstances and the cost of the rental.
To be eligible, certain requirements must be met. For example, the cohabitation unit must not have income greater than three times the IPREM (Multiple Effects Public Income Indicator). The IPREM for the year 2024 remains at 8,400 euros per year.
In the case of general large families, people with disabilities or victims of terrorism, the income limit is raised to four times the IPREM. For special large families or people with severe disabilities, the limit is five times the IPREM.
Besides, the rental price must be less than 600 eurosand in the case of renting a room, the monthly price cannot exceed 300 euros.
Rental aid for vulnerable people
There are specific aids aimed at people who are victims of gender violence, terminally ill, homeless people and other vulnerable groups. These aids can reach 600 euros per month and are granted over a period of 5 years. The characteristics of the aid include various conditions related to the monthly income of the home and the amount of the benefit. Regarding the monthly rent of the home, different limits are established depending on the type of rental, which range from 600 euros per month for standard rentals to 300 euros per month for one-bedroom rentals. In addition, the possibility of reaching up to 900 per month or 450 euros per month for room rentals is contemplated, with prior approval from the Monitoring Commission.
This help is compatible with the State Housing Planallowing up to 40% of the difference between the rent of the home and the aid from the Young Rental Bonus, with a joint limit of 75% of the rental income.
Regarding the amount of aid, a monthly payment of 250 euros, also compatible with the State Housing Plan. The young rental voucher is granted for a period of 2 years.
To be eligible, you must be between 18 and 35 years of age and demonstrate earned income.
