In the cyber attack on the Dreifaltigkeits Hospital in Lippstadt, the Erwitte Hospital and the Holy Spirit Geseke Hospital that became known at the beginning of February, it is now clear that data was encrypted. In addition, data has also been leaked. According to the hospital association, the stolen data includes that of patients, but also internal company information. The hospital network assumes that only a small amount of personal data – including from patients – has been leaked. “Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine exactly which people are affected,” says a press release from the Trinity Hospital.

“The responsible authorities, in particular the police, public prosecutor's office and the data protection supervisory authority, were not only immediately informed, but also involved in the further measures,” writes the clinic association, which provides information in accordance with Section 34 of the Church Data Protection Act.
Reconstruction in progress
As a result of the ransomware attack, all systems were initially shut down and disconnected from the internet. The hospital network has now made great progress in ramping up the systems, but the process is not yet complete. Accessibility is still limited. Thanks to the “immediate activation” of the emergency plans, patient care will continue to be guaranteed.
