Bilbao decorates the Guggenheim for the Cup final. The Biscayan museum has unveiled a gigantic mural of the brothers Iñaki and Nico Williams created by the artist Darío Urzay which is attracting multitudes of fans. Meanwhile, In the city of Palma there is not a single symbol of support for the club just over two weeks until Athletic and Mallorca play for the title at the La Cartuja stadium.
The mural, called «shoot strokes»has been presented by the museum director, Juan Ignacio Vidartewho appeared alongside Darío Urzay and explained that “the museum challenged the artist to create a work that would convey the support and celebration by the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao for the great moment that the team is experiencing». The mural has been made in Baracaldo, on the outskirts of Bilbao, and is having enormous success in its first hours.
«Shoot Strokes» It is not just a mural of the Williamses, but it is about a set of works that can be seen on the exterior façade of the Museum in the next few days, once its installation period ends, which has not yet been completed. Each panel will have its own title. «The complex has been created in harmony with the scale of the architecture of Frank Gehry», stated the director of the Guggenheim, who added that with the images, all of which are large, Urzay «captures the lights of Bilbao, the estuary that forms the backbone of its history and the colors of Athletic». “The elongated format of a soccer goal resonates, at which Urzay throws a shot or a camera shot in the purest style of Action Painting,” said Vidarte.
Bilbao has been decked out for the final for weeks now, which contrasts with the immobility of Palma, where not a single sign is perceived that indicates that the city's first team is going to play in the final of the Copa del Rey. Without going any further, the Bilbao City Council decorated its façade with a gigantic Athletic flag, and right in front of it stands out a façade completely covered with a canvas with the number 12 printed on the back of the Athletic shirt.
