Atlas VPN explains the decision in a blog post. The company wrote there that the decision was not made lightly; it follows a comprehensive assessment of the evolving cybersecurity landscape and Atlas VPN's place in it.
Atlas VPN: Insurmountable Challenges
The idea behind Atlas VPN is to offer secure, accessible (sic) and user-friendly VPN services. Despite the best efforts and support from users, insurmountable challenges were encountered. These consist of rapidly evolving technical requirements, a highly competitive market and finally the “escalating costs of providing first-class services”. Due to these influences, AtlasVPN cannot be operated sustainably in the long term.
The sister company NordVPN is now supposed to step in. The company will guarantee uninterrupted and secure VPN services in the future. All current subscribers will automatically be transferred to NordVPN for the remainder of their term. “NordVPN is a leader in the cybersecurity industry and is known for its robust security features, extensive server network and exceptional quality of service,” assures Atlas VPN in the announcement.
Atlas VPN users should receive an email from NordVPN with a link to create a password. Once created, they can log in to NordVPN and set up their account. By moving your account to NordVPN you also agree to the terms of use/Terms of Use and the privacy policy, explains Atlas VPN.
Premium users also receive all additional functions with NordVPN at no additional cost until the subscription expires. NordVPN also takes booked add-ons into account and offers similar ones. Anyone who has bought the apps in the Google or Amazon stores can rely on the store operators. These are intended to ensure a smooth move to NordVPN. Anyone who bought the software in Apple's App Store will receive their money back for the remaining term; access will be cut off on April 24th.
