Almost every user of Apple products also has an Apple ID. This is the central access to all of the group's services, be it iCloud, App Store, Apple Music, the “Where is?” search service or the support and repair offering. In addition, by default you log in to your Apple ID on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Co. Apparently there is now a change in this area: According to a report, Apple is working on a rebranding, i.e. renaming the Apple ID.

Raider becomes Twix?
According to MacRumors sources, the Apple ID will be renamed “Apple Account” in the future. The “ID” (English for Identifaction, Identity, Identifier) becomes an “account”. What the exact reason for the renaming was initially remained unclear. This could also change, it said. Apple often has several “marketing names” up its sleeve for new services and products. This was the case with the Vision Pro, which was now also known internally as “Reality Pro”.
If the “Apple Account” comes about, it is likely to be introduced later in 2024 – for example, with the release of iOS 18 and macOS 15, both of which are expected to appear in the fall. Changes are planned both in the operating systems and on the Apple website. There, “Apple Account” is already used in connection with voucher cards when the “Apple Account Balance” (the deposited balance) is displayed.
Corporations love central accounts
The new name could also be related to an expansion of Apple's services. The Apple ID has been used for over ten years now and could become even more important in the future. Competitors such as Google, Microsoft and Meta also rely on central accounts; under Windows this is not without controversy.
Apple also offers the option of logging in to third-party websites using your Apple account, and until recently even required app providers to do this if they had integrated competing services. More flexibility should now be possible here. The Apple ID also recently hit the headlines because it was used as a central account gateway by thieves.
