AnesCon, the organization that looks after the interests of private healthcare anesthesiologists in Mallorca, held a meeting this Wednesday with the deputies of the PP of the Balearic Islands who are part of the Parliament's Health Commission, where they have warned of the lack of anesthesiologists in the archipelago, in addition to presenting the entity to the ruling party in the islands and explaining the lines of work they currently have.
On behalf of AnesCon, the meeting was attended by the president of the organization, the Dr. A.S. Joseph Anthony of PeaceWith Edwin Rodriguez y Juan Berga. On behalf of the Popular Group, they have participated Isabel Borras, Lourdes Cardona, Rafael Nadal, Sandra Palau, Cristina Gil y Margalida Pocoví.
At the meeting, Dr. De Paz took the opportunity to tell those present that “our first mission is to make known the figure and work of the anesthesiologist, since if it is not known it is impossible to value it. And because of a job that we have historically stopped doing, the truth is that Society knows that we exist but not everything behind anesthesiology and the fundamental role it currently plays in medicine.
On the other hand, the president of AnesCon has warned that “at the national level there is a lack of anesthesiologists that is increasingly evident, and in the Balearic Islands there is also this deficit, which becomes more evident in Menorca and the Pitiusas. For this reason we also want to have visibility, to be able to maintain professionals and promote early vocations, and that is a job in which we must involve everyone who, in one way or another, has responsibility in the health sector.
On the other hand, AnesCon has reported that the organization also has the objective of improve working conditions of the professional group. Dr. de Paz has pointed out in this sense that “the best way to ensure optimal service to patients It is having the best conditions for it, and we work to make it so. There are already autonomous communities that are having serious problems due to the lack of anesthesiologists, and it is a problem that must be addressed before reaching a situation that can be very complex.
It should be remembered that the AnesCon organization brings together the majority of anesthesiologist doctors who work in private healthcare in Mallorca, and is part of the Spanish Federation of Professional Associations of Anesthesiologists (FEAPA).
Dr. de Paz, who is also part of the Executive Commission and Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapeutics (SEDAR), highlighted that «The population is not clear about who we are, or what we do., and therefore the Administration and the media themselves are profoundly unaware of the functions and what we provide to patients. Therefore, this work that we are carrying out is essential, which is none other than getting closer to society so that it knows us.
