Why do the Fritz boxes have an estimated market share of over 50 percent in the German router market? What has made AVM better than the competition for so many years? c't editors Ernst Ahlers and Andrijan Möcker talk about this and more in the c't uplink podcast. One reason is that the Fritz boxes are not only WLAN routers with a broadband connection, but also serve as a telephone exchange with a DECT radio station. Over the years, the Fritz boxes have always learned new tricks, sometimes a self-configuring mesh, sometimes VPN via WireGuard – where possible, new functions were added as firmware updates for many old models. The Fritzbox is now even trying to be used as a smart home center – then you would have saved another penny.

We tested the new Fritzbox 6670 and report the results: How does the Wi-Fi 7 perform and why is the 6 GHz band missing? What does the integration of the Zigbee smart home radio standard bring?
The colleagues also looked at accessories for the Fritz boxes. An external directional radio antenna helps models with mobile communications achieve significantly higher transfer rates, especially on remote properties. A robust outdoor housing makes the Fritzbox repeater suitable for the garden, another housing makes the speakers suitable for racks.
