With 350 cc and 29 hp, the Chinese Loncin group places the first scooter from its premium brand “Voge” in the upper middle class. In addition to the bestseller Vespa GTS 300 (from around 7,000 euros from 2023), there are models such as Piaggio Beverly 400 (from around 6,500 euros), Honda ADV 350 (from 6,760 euros), Kymco DT X360 350i (from around 6,350 euros), Suzuki Burgman 400 (from around 8,300 euros), and Sym Maxsym 400 (from around 8,000 euros).*
BMW C 400 GT also from Loncin
The BMW C 400 GT is also part of this class. It currently costs from 8,200 euros and is well known to the Loncin Group because it is built in their factory. With largely the same engine, the BMW scooter delivers 34 hp, which is 5 hp more than the unit in the Voge. But the rest of the data is the same, with minimal deviations: both weigh 214 kilograms ready to drive, have a permissible total weight of 415 kilograms and roll on 15-inch wheels at the front (tires: 120/70) and 14-inch wheels at the rear (tires: 150/70). The wheelbase is 1,565 mm for the Voge and 5 mm less for the BMW. Both have 12.8 liters of fuel in the tank. The BMW’s seat height is slightly higher at 775mm than the Voge (761mm) and the suspension travel is slightly shorter: BMW at 110mm front and 112mm rear, the Voge at 112mm front and 127mm rear.
The Voge SR4 Max 350 will be launched in its first round in 2023 for 6,399 euros (including 300 euros for transport costs). In terms of price, it’s a lot cheaper than the BMW, but compared to the other competitors in this class, that doesn’t make it a bargain right away. Instead, he wants to convince with plenty of equipment.
Engine, chassis, brakes
The liquid-cooled single cylinder of the Voge SR4 Max 350 has a peak output of 29 hp (at 7,500 rpm) and has a maximum torque of 30 Nm at 6,000 rpm. A continuously variable CVT transmission and a balance shaft should ensure comfort. On the chassis side, a tubular steel frame with an aluminum drive unit swing arm including five-way adjustable spring struts from Kayaba is used. At the front, the 35 mm telescopic fork offers 112 mm of travel and the rear stereo struts offer 127 mm.
The braking system is provided by Brembo subsidiary J.Juan: 265 mm double disc brakes with radially mounted four-piston brake calipers at the front and 265 mm disc brakes with single-piston brake calipers at the rear ensure deceleration on the Voge SR4 Max 350.
Traction control, dashcam, connectivity
In addition to the mandatory ABS, the Voge SR4 Max 350 also has traction control. Something exotic for the German market: the camera integrated into the front panel. The use of such dashcams is not prohibited in Germany, but anyone who violates the data protection rights of other road users – even unknowingly – must expect a fine.
The equipment list of the Voge Maxi Scooter also includes a keyless system (keyless), an automatic emergency brake light, LED lights all around, a cockpit with a 7-inch TFT screen and smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and a USB port.
A lumbar support on the seat and the height-adjustable windshield should ensure comfort. The Voge SR4 Max 350 also wants to score points in terms of storage space: with a large compartment under the seat that has a capacity of 41.5 liters and can therefore accommodate two jet helmets at the same time. At the front, the scooter has two centrally lockable glove compartments, one of which houses the USB socket.
761mm seat height
At 761 mm, the seat height should also not appeal to drivers who are not quite as tall. Pragmatists might lack a flat running board throughout, but that’s not generally common in this class.
In Germany, the Voge SR4 Max 350 “will be available for the new season”, the manufacturer announces. When exactly that could be, we would have to guess. What is certain is that the maxi scooter will cost 6,399 euros including additional costs and will be available in black and white.
*Prices refer to manufacturer information as of October 6th, 2022.
This maxi scooter from China does not want to impress with a cheap image, but with equipment at a reasonable price. In theory, the offer is impressive. And in practice? Colleague Jens Kratschmar was able to examine it at Intermot 2022 and says: “It’s well done.” You can find out more about this on our YouTube channel shortly, because our colleagues took a closer look at the scooters at the Intermot.
