TVS Motor Company is one of the largest two-wheeler motor vehicle manufacturers in India. In this country, TVS has become known as a BMW partner. The G 310 models are manufactured for BMW at TVS in India. TVS also took over the English motorcycle brand Norton in 2020.
Air-oil-cooled single-cylinder engine with 226 cc
In late summer 2022, the TVS Ronin appeared, a classically designed naked bike with modern equipment. The Ronin is powered by an air-oil-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine. According to TVS, the four-valve engine with an overhead camshaft and fuel injection delivers a good 20 hp (15 kW) at 7,750 rpm. Already at 3,750 rpm it pushes bravely with almost 20 Nm of torque. At 66 by 66 millimeters, the bore-stroke ratio is square, and that results in a classic single punch with the corresponding exhaust mufflers. With the five-speed gearbox – including anti-hopping clutch – the top speed should be around 120 km/h.
Disc brakes with ABS
The chassis of the Ronin is more modern, with a 41 mm upside-down telescopic fork at the front and a preloadable central spring strut at the rear. The front wheel is braked with a 300 mm disc and the rear wheel with a 240 mm disc, monitored by the ABS. The tire sizes: 110/70-17 at the front, 130/70-17 at the rear. The weight of the Ronin is also moderate: 160 kilograms with a full 14-liter tank. The seat height is just as beginner-friendly: just under 80 centimetres.
Modern and practical equipment
The equipment that TVS has given this new model is even remarkably modern: LED lights all around and a digital display with Bluetooth connection and functional smartphone coupling including the associated app. Some of these functions and equipment details such as two-channel ABS (also for the rear wheel) or adjustable hand levers are reserved for the top version Ronin TD. Practical standard, however, are the encapsulation of the chain final drive and the automatic speed increase for slow cruising in the lower gears – for heavy traffic or traffic jams.
Prices around 2,000 euros
In India, the TVS Ronin is offered in the color variants SS or DS from around 1900 euros, the top variant Ronin TD for around 2100 euros. This makes the chic 226 all the more attractive. It is not known whether TVS also wants to export the Ronin to Europe and Germany. In any case, this would not fail because of the Euro 5 emissions standard, because similarly strict emissions limits now apply in India.
An attractive new release is the neoclassical Ronin from Indian BMW partner TVS. Not only the design, but also the key data are attractive for this vehicle category: 226 cubic, 20 hp, 160 kilos and prices around 2,000 euros – including modern equipment. It is not known whether the TVS Ronin will also come to Europe and Germany. It would be nice.
