The American Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) asked Triumph USA to call the Speed Triple RS and RR models into the workshops. The reason is that the fan can fail at very high temperatures, which can lead to the cooling water boiling over. As part of the recall, an additional heat shield will be installed to protect the fan.
All 1200 Speedy affected
In the US, 1,351 motorcycles are on the recall list. NHTSA lists the affected Speed Triple RS as being produced between February 3, 2021 and December 22, 2022. The recalled retro racers Speed Triple RR were produced between September 2, 2021 and October 5, 2022.
Hot summer reveals
The hot US summer probably uncovered the problem, because according to NHTSA, complaints about frequent heat warnings in the cockpit have increased at Triumph since the end of June 2022. An investigation was then launched. In August 2022, Triumph’s quality department inspected the replaced parts for investigation. In January 2023, Triumph decided to launch a voluntary service campaign. From February 2023 the US owners will be informed. The callback is free for the owners.
Speed Triple affected in Europe?
It is not yet known whether the European models of the Triumph Speed Triple RS and RR are affected by the service campaign. MOTORRAD’s request to Triumph Germany is ongoing.
