In the future, selected influencers will be able to use the “Series” tool on TikTok to create collections of premium content and place them behind a paywall. The short video service wants to create an additional income opportunity for “legitimate” creators of video content. According to the TikTok announcement, the channel owners can set the prices themselves.
A series can therefore contain up to 80 videos with a length of up to 20 minutes. Viewers would have the opportunity to support their favorite influencers financially and “experience them in a longer form”. An application is required to participate in “Series” – the company has not yet explained whether there are other requirements for participating in the program and whether and when it will be available to every TikToker.
The future of TikTok
The first reports on the function that has now been announced were already available in mid-February. It was assumed that the company, which belongs to the Chinese Bytedance group, wanted to counteract the falling number of users after the corona pandemic. According to the announcement, all videos, including those behind the “Series” paywall, must comply with the community guidelines.
TikTok’s future is uncertain amid privacy concerns and suspicions that the Chinese company behind the short-video app is providing data to the Chinese government. Recently, several governments from different countries have banned the use of the app on service devices. These include Denmark, Canada and Germany. To address privacy concerns, TikTok is setting up more data centers in Europe in a bid to gain more trust. The United States is taking the toughest action against TikTok.
