Lidl launches its savings pack to avoid wasting food
The supermarket chain Lidl has introduced the ‘anti-waste bag’ for fruits and vegetables in its more than 650 establishments in Spain. This pack, which costs three euros, contains fruits and vegetables that either do not meet conventional aesthetic standards but are perfectly safe to eat, or They are part of containers that have suffered some type of damage but that have not affected the quality of the product.
This initiative, which has been implemented in recent weeks in more than 30 stores in the Canary Islandsaccording to a statement from the chain, has achieved sell more than 20,000 kilograms of fruit and vegetables. For this reason, after the success of the initiative, it has decided to implement it in the rest of the Spanish stores so that we can now find these packs in all Lidl stores and with this, not only avoid wasting food but also consumers will be able to save.
“One of our top priorities is to reduce food waste. In order to reduce the number of unsold products in our inventory as much as possible, we are firmly committed to prevention, planning and effective assortment management. The introduction of the anti-waste bag is another initiative that aims to encourage the purchase of fruits and vegetables that are still suitable for consumption. After the success of the Canary Islands, I am sure that our clients in the rest of the country will also welcome this initiative” according to Michaela Reischl, director of CSR of Lidl Spain.
Other anti-waste measures applied by Lidl
Lidl has been testing other additional measures to continue reducing food waste in the Canary Islands, apart from this anti-waste bag and since they have also been very successful, they have been transferred to the rest of the country.
Its about 50% discount on bread from the day before, the application of a second discount (also 50%) the day before the product expires and of the 30% discount on your selection of frozen and dry products.
