The women’s soccer coach and facilities technician of the University of Huelva, 62 years old and arrested on January 9, kept intimate clothes of the victims of his sexual assaults in his locker. The police officers found a large quantity of sports underwear, the same ones that he used according to the victims to lure them to the store and have them change in front of him during episodes that included touching and even alleged sexual assaults.
Accused of assaulting at least four minors 16-year-old players from the soccer teams he trained, the person under investigation has refused to testify as he already did at the police headquarters, for which reason his stay in provisional detention has been ratified. The lawyer for the affected families, Patricia Catalina, had requested that the defendant be kept in prison due to the inherent risk of flight, but also because the defendant could coerce o threaten to the victims who have already denounced or those who will do so in the future, so that they change their testimony.
In addition to the request of the prosecution represented by the lawyer Patricia Catalina, the court investigating the case has taken into account the large amount of evidence gathered by the Police against the detainee. Among them, the extensive collection of underwear for minors that the Police found during the search of the office/warehouse of the detainee in the University of Huelva.
The agents also found panties from the minors, which he took from them or directly kept and kept hanging inside his locker as if they were trophies. Precisely, one of the complainants has recognized one of the garments as hers, and even identified other garments owned by other team players.
The complaint that has brought to light the alleged abuses took place at dawn on January 9. One of the players had to be assisted in the hospital emergency room due to an anxiety attack and during the medical examination she mentioned the cause: the alleged abuse by the coach and the harassment to which he subjected her on social networks and by telephone messaging.
The mode of operation that the first victim recounted was similar to that of a second, which resulted in the acts that the coach committed without consent and the out-of-tune phrases that he dedicated to the minors such as “I love your body, I’m going to put you naked in front of a mirror for you to see.”
The coach He was arrested only a few hours later, at nine in the morning of that day at the entrance to a university center. After the arrest, the rain of complaints from more victims of alleged abuses continued.
The Police speak in the proceedings of “the same pattern»which, according to the victims, has been repeated since 2016. It was an open secret, but the victims did not dare to report it out of shame or losing their position in the team if they did not allow the alleged abuser to give them massages which included, according to the stories, touching the genitals, profanity, and even coercion and threats.
