the socialist Antonio MuñozMayor of Sevillawill be the candidate of the match in the next municipal elections which will take place on May 28, 2023as confirmed on Monday by the secretary general of the PSOE-A and former mayor of Seville, John Swords.
The leader of the Andalusian Socialists, who suffered a resounding defeat in the Andalusian elections on June 19, has stressed that Muñoz “is doing an excellent job these months”, something that “is noticeable and they tell you” even citizens who do not they are voters of the PSOE and that “they recognize the magnificent work” that the alderman of the Andalusian capital has been developing, as he has indicated.
Espadas has also confirmed that the other three mayors of the PSOE-A at the head of provincial capitals in Andalusia (Francisco Cuenca in Granada, Gabriel Cruz in Huelva and Julio Millán in Jaén) will also be the ones leading the party’s candidacies in said cities in the upcoming municipal elections.
In this regard, and in an interview granted to Europa Press, Espadas recalled that according to the PSOE regulations it is not necessary to hold primaries to elect the candidates for mayor of municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants when these are governed by socialists and the councilors themselves want to opt for re-election, as in the case of the four Andalusian capitals mentioned.
Thus, the general secretary of the PSOE-A has assessed that the aforementioned mayors have “very high support from their neighbors and, without a doubt, they are our best option, not only for continuity, but also for future projects” for their respective cities.
On the other hand, the general secretary of the PSOE-A has stressed that the municipal elections are “completely different” from the regional ones, although he does not deny that they are also affected by the “general political situation”. “The state of mind of people when they are in a stable economic or social situation”, with “high expectations”, is not the same as when people “have many problems or there are turbulence”, he has pointed out.
Dirt in Seville
In another order of things, the spokesman for Ciudadanos (Cs) in the Seville City Council, Álvaro Pimentel, has assured the “big problem” that the Seville capital has at the moment is the evident “lack of cleanliness”. For this reason, he has opted for a “real professionalization” of the positions of responsibility of the municipal company Lipasam.
«Whoever denies that Seville is dirtier than ever, either does not step on the street or does not want to see reality. It’s that simple. There has been accumulated dirt on the pavement for months, streets that are patched up and that instead of being cleaned, the only thing that is done is to distribute more dirt, ”Pimentel denounced in This is how he expressed it in an interview with Europa Press.
The municipal spokesman for the orange formation has assured that there are “overflowing” containers in all the districts and “bins that are not collected” and has described the situation as “unsustainable”: “If there is still wax from the candles of the Holy Week at the door of the Town Hall and more than a hundred days have passed since Easter Sunday!».
In this sense, Pimentel has criticized the government team for “blaming” the Sevillians for “launching hoaxes” through social networks. This last issue that the municipal cleaning company wanted to clarify a few days ago, arguing that the message spread on networks “only sought to avoid false notices” that occur in those communication channels and that cause a “deterioration of public services and damage to the work of professionals in that area.
«More than half a year ago that the mayor, Antonio Muñoz (PSOE), announced the creation of a Cleaning Delegation that would solve all the problems of the city and it has been one of the biggest failures of his management. Seville is not cleaner but dirtier. And he sees that it was difficult to make the situation worse, because he has achieved it », Pimentel lamented.
The spokesman for the liberal formation in the Consistory has recalled that although more trucks will be bought and there will be new machines that clean the ground “in a special way”, as well as a reinforcement of the workforce, “the mayor does not say that” what are going to start are the tenders for these projects and that, hopefully, until well into 2023 we will not see these supposed improvements ».
For Pimentel, the recipe is “clear”: “Here what is needed is a real professionalization of the positions of responsibility of Lipasam and a reorganization of the company.” But the mayor “preferred to put at the head of the Lipasam management a historic socialist leader, with many merits in the party but with zero experience in cleaning. From those muds, these muds come », he has underlined.
