Microsoft’s monthly update preview for Windows doesn’t address security issues, but it does pre-test fixes for all sorts of bugs lurking in the operating systems. A fixed issue with RDP brokers for RDP access is very important to Microsoft in the January feature update preview.
Windows update preview: bug fixes
In the Windows Release Health Notes, Microsoft’s developers explain that fewer home users are affected by the RDP problem, but that the Windows desktop RDP app in particular stopped responding when a connection was to be established using the Remote Desktop Connection Broker . An example of this are remote desktop connection collections, which can be set up in particular on newer Windows servers.
Specifically, Microsoft describes that the problem occurs when the RDP client runs through the connection steps “Loading the virtual machine” or “Configuring the remote connection”. This happens regardless of the operating system version installed on the remote computer. In some cases, the error message “Your Remote Desktop Services session has ended” may appear. If the application stops responding, it must be partially terminated using the Windows Task Manager. Microsoft has presented temporary countermeasures, but some of these lead to performance losses. According to Microsoft, the update preview solves the problem.
Other highlights that Microsoft emphasizes include corrected errors when entering data with the Input Method Editor (IME). It could no longer react when users used the keyboard and mouse at the same time. Furthermore, it fixes errors when using a translation app from multi-byte character sets (MBCS) for Japanese kanji; there the cursor jumped to wrong positions when writing. The search for images via the taskbar could not open them previously, which should work after the update. The search for file content should also be corrected, as well as the problem that the computer could not switch to sleep mode when connected to certain game controllers.
behavior changes
The developers from Microsoft also describe in the summary that after installing this update, optional .Net Framework update previews are displayed under “Settings”-“Windows Update”-“Advanced Options”-“Optional Updates” on the user and users can then choose which ones they want to install. Microsoft lists numerous other minor corrections in the summary. The update raises the Windows version to the servicing stack level 22621.1190.
Under “Settings”-“Windows Update” Windows offers the update preview for downloading and installing.

Windows does not automatically install the update. Interested parties have to click through “Settings”-“Windows Update”, where the operating system offers to install the update. If you can wait a little longer for the bug fixes, you will receive them with the official Windows update, including the security updates, in about two weeks, provided they prove to be stable.
With the Windows update preview last December, problems with games were solved, but new bugs were added.
