Security researchers from Kaspersky analyzed job advertisements on the dark web. Criminal developers in particular can cash in there under certain circumstances.
The online black market thrives on the Darknet. In addition to any drugs, you can also buy Trojans there. Malware-as-a-Service is big business, and with all-in-one packages, even non-IT criminals can launch ransomware campaigns. But the entire infrastructure and the malicious code do not come from just anywhere, IT specialists are needed for this.
In their report, the researchers state that they evaluated job advertisements in 155 Darknet forums for around a year and a half. According to the results, the “employers” are primarily looking for staff to develop malware code and build and maintain IT infrastructures.
Get rich quick. Or not?
61 percent of the ads are said to be aimed at developers. According to the researchers, up to $20,000 a month is possible for such a job. For IT professionals, they documented wages ranging from $1,300 to $4,000. The latter amount is included for reverse engineers.
In the end, however, they close their report with the fact that the promised salaries are often just an illusion and that you don’t necessarily earn more on the Darknet than on the legal side.
