The live streaming video portal Twitch is accepting more streamers in its own advertising program “Adds Incentive Program” (AIP). At the same time, Twitch is changing the structure of payouts. Streamers entitled to the program should receive more money, Twitch promises in a blog post on Tuesday.
Twitch does not provide precise information about how many streamers can now benefit from the program and only speaks of “more Twitch partners than before”. The previous AIP included an offer to streamers to stream a certain number of hours a month with a certain ad density. They then receive a predetermined lump sum payment, which takes place at the end of the month. Streamers should be able to achieve a reliable income.
Percentage participation in advertising revenue
In addition to expanding the program to include more streamers, Twitch will also increase the payout rate from Wednesday. The previous payment of a lump sum per 1000 ad impressions is no longer applicable. Instead, Twitch gives streamers a percentage of the revenue, according to Twitch’s blog post. 55 percent of the revenue per ad generated in the stream then goes to the streamer. This means an increase in advertising remuneration of between 50 and 100 percent, Twitch calculates.
In the future, affiliates will also receive the higher rate of 55 percent, but they must display advertising for at least three minutes per hour. You can set this in the Ads Manager. However, these changes are not yet active. They should apply from August. In the course of this, the annoying pre-roll ads are also eliminated, but only if advertising is displayed for at least three minutes per hour. According to US tech magazine The Verge, Twitch says “we are continually working to add less intrusive advertising experiences for viewers and creators.”
The use of AIP is optional. You can subscribe and unsubscribe to the monthly offers at any time. Twitch promises that AIP will not generate lower income than the previous model. If this is the case, Twitch will pay out the higher amount.
According to Twitch, more than one billion US dollars, over 950 million euros, will have been paid out to streamers in 2021. Compared to 2020, the payout has more than doubled.
