It’s often the little details that make life so interesting. The pictures “Ice Flowers I” by Christiane Land (Lena-13) and “Pusteblume” by Darius Swiderski (Daborius) inspire us. Both photographers use the element of water. The difference between these two images, however, lies in their origin. So behind the shot of the dandelion, there is a planned structure with different materials that make the photo possible in the first place. In contrast, the Frost Flower grew as a combination of different circumstances, such as the sunrise in the background and the night frost. Both images combine the creativity of their photographers in capturing the motif, regardless of whether it was planned or whether the circumstances are recognized and used.
Although the pictures “breathless” and “Kedusha 3” are linked in the architecture category, they could not appear more different to the viewer. Joachim Kiner’s picture mainly shows the restlessness and hustle and bustle at Berlin’s main train station, which the photographer expresses through the different colours, structures and people. It is different in the black and white shot of Majestix. This radiates calm and the photographed building speaks for itself.
Stefan Weber (Pham Nuwem) needed a lot of patience when trying to photograph a siskin on a fir tree. For his picture, the title of which bears the name of the bird, he actually had a different motif in mind and wanted to capture the little fellow on the top of the fir tree. But: “You can’t have everything,” Weber states, “ultimately it is the photographer’s patience that decides whether and how the picture is created”.
“Winter Morning” by Lula convinces us with a simple composition that conveys serenity. The photographer cleverly uses the fog and the emptiness around the ship. The snow on the stones conveys the winter cold. With “Dreaming in the Forest” Gabi Hampe sets a counterpoint to all the other pictures that we have in our selection this week. The artist combines the forest in the background with a painting and places calm and thoughtfulness in the foreground.
You can find all the pictures from this week again in our photo gallery.
