It has been a good year since Tesla started production in Grünheide. Some of the protests on site were significant because there are fears that there is not enough water available in the region. Tesla has now submitted an application to the state of Brandenburg to be able to expand the plant in Grünheide. This should only be the beginning. Further applications are to follow, which will then also deal with new buildings. The company has guaranteed the greatest possible transparency. Tesla therefore does not fear a lack of water: the agreed quantities were also sufficient for this expansion.
Goal: 500,000 Tesla per year from Grünheide
In the first expansion stage, Tesla had planned a capacity of 500,000 electric cars per year. The company argues that this could save around 15 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the transport sector. The goal is to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. However, the mark of 500,000 cars per year has not yet been reached. Conservationists see risks in an expansion, Tesla rejects such concerns. The plant currently employs around 10,000 people, with plans to increase the number to 12,000 in the first stage of expansion.
