Apple’s entry into the foldables market is becoming clearer: According to information from an accurate analyst, the manufacturer is working on a completely new iPad design with a foldable display, the introduction of which is planned for 2024. The new model relies on a fold-out stand made of carbon fibers, which should be particularly light and durable, explains the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Twitter. He does not give any further details about the display size.
Few iPad innovations 2023
Kuo has deep insight into Apple’s supply chain and has regularly and accurately provided advance details of unreleased Apple hardware in the past. The analyst thinks sothat 2023 will be particularly quiet in terms of new iPad hardware: There may not be a new iPad announcement in the next nine to twelve months, and mass production of an iPad mini 7 will probably not start until early 2024.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will introduce an iPad Air 6 in the next few years, but the main innovation there is likely to be the M2 chip. Apple updated iPad Pro and the base iPad in fall 2022, and the iPad mini was last relaunched in September 2021. Kuo predicts that iPad sales in 2023 will therefore fall by 10 to 15 percent compared to the previous year.
Apple foldable approaching
It’s no secret that Apple is researching foldables. There have been rumors for a long time that the group wants to enter the market with a first product in the coming year – with a tablet. The supplier and competitor Samsung allegedly also expects internally that Apple will have its own foldable in the program from 2024.
A relatively large device with a 20” display was also discussed. At the same time, there is persistent speculation that Apple will switch to OLED displays with the iPad Pro series in the coming year. The last redesign of the iPad Pro was more than four years ago. For 2025, Apple is also considering adding a touchscreen to MacBooks, it said recently.
