The President of the People’s Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has considered that Pedro Sánchez “is correct in copying the measures of the PP to lower VAT on electricity and help the vulnerable.” However, he believes that he “is wrong in not going further” and believes that “he is in time to take on the rest of the measures and help the Spanish more.”
Sánchez announced this Saturday a new package of economic measures, a week after the blow suffered by the PSOE in the Andalusian elections, where the Socialists reaped their worst historical result, with 30 seats.
Included in that package are of the measures that Feijóo himself transferred to the President of the Government in the plan that, two months ago, he presented to him in La Moncloa and that Sánchez rejected. This is the reduction of VAT to 5% -a measure that the Executive even branded as “cosmetic”- and help for vulnerable families. Sánchez’s proposal is a direct aid from 200 euros for low-income workers, self-employed and unemployed –14.000 euros– which can be requested from July. The measure was defended by Podemos and generated wide reticence in the PSOE. The President of the Government has finally assumed it, although with annotations.
In the economic plan of the PP, Feijóo also demanded a practically identical measure from Sánchez: «A specific maximum deduction applicable to the differential quota of the tax between 200 and 300 euros per year for these taxpayers, a deduction in installments, which they can obtain in advance (similar to the deduction for maternity or the deduction for large families or dependents with disabilities)». The popular understood as beneficiaries those with a salary of «14,000 euros, which can reach up to 17,600 euros approximately depending on the personal and family circumstances of the taxpayer’.
Precisely, this matter has caused serious discrepancies between PSOE and Podemos, and the negotiation has even extended to the Council of Ministers this Saturday.
«After the setback in Andalusia, the Government is correct in copying the measures of the PP in the Council of Ministers to lower the VAT on electricity and help the vulnerable, but it is wrong in not going further. He is in time to take on the rest of the measures and really help the Spanish”, Feijóo has claimed on his social networks.
According to the president of the PP, “the Government must adjust the personal income tax to medium and low incomes as it is collecting more, reduce the most expensive government spending in history and work to suspend the tax on hydrocarbons and thus lower the price of gasoline. », as proposed by his party.
