Dell has announced the 2023 edition of its two premium notebooks, the XPS 15 (9530) and XPS 17 (9730). They use the latest processors and graphics chips from Intel and Nvidia – on the graphics side this year also with faster options beyond the middle class, but with strict power limits.
The hearts are always CPUs from the Intel Core i-13000H family: either the 12-core Core i5-13500H, the 14-core Core i7-13700H or the higher clocked Core i9-13900H also with 14 cores. This is supported by 8 to 64 GB DDR5-4800 RAM, with all configurations from 16 GB using two SO-DIMMs in dual-channel. Two M.2 slots accept PCI Express 4.0 SSDs with a total capacity of up to 8 TB.
Faster Nvidia GPUs
The XPS 15 will initially appear with the GeForce RTX 4070; options with the RTX 4060, RTX 4050 and also Intel’s Arc A370M will follow later. The power consumption of these models is limited to 40 watts – so the distance between the GeForce GPUs should not be as large as the names suggest.
The XPS 17 comes first with the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 graphics chips; Configurations with the RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 will follow later. Dell limits the power consumption of all models to 60 watts – here, too, the differences between the equipment versions should be kept within limits.
Dell has always limited itself to Nvidia’s mid-range GPUs in previous XPS notebooks. The XPS 15 (9520) from 2022, for example, was only available with the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti and the XPS 17 (9720) with a maximum of the GeForce RTX 3060.

Lots of Thunderbolt 4
Dell hasn’t changed much about the rest. The XPS 15 is still available with a 15.6-inch OLED touch display that displays 3456 × 2160 pixels in 16:10 format. Cheaper configurations use an IPS panel with 1920 × 1200 pixels. On the connection side, there are still two Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB Type C), one USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s, DisplayPort, Power Delivery, Type C), an audio jack and an SD card reader.
The XPS 17 will also come in 2023 without an OLED option. Instead, there are IPS panels with either 3840 × 2400 or 1920 × 1200 pixels. As usual, four instead of two Thunderbolt 4 ports are available.
Dell intends to ship the first configurations in the course of this spring. In the US, the manufacturer quotes prices starting at $2,949 for the XPS 15 and $3,399 for the XPS 17. Meanwhile, an updated XPS 13 is still a long way off.
