Deputies of Citizens in the Valencian Courts reject lowering the regional electoral barrier from 5% to 3% to which their own trustee has opened Mamen Peris and what the forces of the Valencian government want –PSOECompromís and Podemos- to ensure victory and therefore a third government with the socialist Ximo Puig in front. All this, according to what OKDIARIO has learned from sources of the Parliamentary Group itself in the Valencian Courts of the orange formation. Also, at least two other parliamentarians of the 5 not attached to any party reject the initiativeas confirmed to this newspaper by sources from the aforementioned non-attached deputies.
The Valencian tripartite had slipped in recent days the intention to carry out a reform of the electoral law in this territory to lower the current barrier from 5% to 3%. The measure requires the support of two thirds of the Chamber, made up of 99 deputies. Therefore, the forces that support that Government, which add up to 52 seats, are still far from the 66 necessary.
But the door was open. Especially after the new trustee of Ciudadanos Mamen Peris open to negotiating a reform of said law. Because this party has 13 deputies, which added to the 52 of Puig and his government make a total of 65. Still one below, but very close to the goal, which is why both saw a clear possibility of achieving it.
But in the last hours, this possibility has been fading for three reasons. The first, because as OKDIARIO has been able to confirm from parliamentary sources from the orange formation itself, not all deputies are willing to support it. Specifically, at least between 2 and 3 would not. The second, because at least 2 of the 5 non-attached deputies are not for the job either. And the third, because according to sources consulted from the Table of the Cortes, the deadlines are extremely fair to approve the law in the time that remains until the electoral call.
Neither the Valencian Government nor Ciudadanos can risk taking this initiative if all support is not assured, because a defeat in a matter of this magnitude will also set the electoral course at a time when there is a technical tie, according to all the surveys, between the two blocks.
What the Valencian Government intended with this initiative was reinforce the position of Podemos, which the polls already place with lower expectations than those of the last elections – it has 8 deputies – and a progressive downward trend. And this, because a good result of the purple formation is essential for Ximo Puig to ensure victory: each deputy that adds a block is worth two. The one who wins that block and the one who loses the other.
This same morning, the president of the Valencian PP Carlos Mazon has referred to this issue. And he has also denounced this impulse to change the electoral barrier by the forces that support the Valencian Government: «One of the main priorities right now is to change the electoral rules to try to get some perk, some benefit. And, therefore, change the rules of the game at the end of the game. Like bad students.
