Buy HomePod: Where the new Apple speaker is still available
An orderer from Apple currently has to wait a month to get the new speaker: The manufacturer has announced a delivery date of March 6th to 13th in its own online store for both the white and the black version. The sale officially starts on Friday.
Obviously, many interested parties have already taken advantage of the pre-order option in the last few days, at least more than Apple expected or was able to produce products. And that, although this second generation of the HomePod differs only to a limited extent from the first, which Apple probably removed from the program almost two years ago due to a lack of interest.
There are two other ways for those who are impatient: Even if you have to wait online, local Apple stores should have a few copies in stock when they open on Friday. Secondly, there are other dealers where things usually look better. For the dark HomePod 2 (“Midnight”), for example, Cyberport states that it will be available from February 9th, but you have to wait until March 23rd for the white one. Saturn and Mediamarkt promised delivery for both models this morning by February 14, but the providers have not yet announced local availability on their website. Other dealers and their delivery times see below in the price comparison. Oh, and if you’re looking for the smart Apple speaker on Amazon, you’ll only get a whole range of offers for the Amazon Echo.
Choose HomePod 2 or HomePod mini?
One may wonder whether it even has to be the 350-euro HomePod or whether a used predecessor is sufficient. Our test showed that the new HomePod does not significantly surpass the good sound of its predecessor. However, it has become more energy efficient and the power cable can be changed. The second generation supports the smart household better, namely with thread, matter and a temperature sensor.
The HomePod mini also offers the latter, it displays the temperature and humidity after the software update to version 16.3. The huge difference between the two models is only in the sound system. With its five tweeters and one woofer, the large HomePod sounds much more voluminous and louder. Thanks to room sensors, it adapts the sound to the room and supports 3D audio. The HomePod mini, which made a good impression in the test, does not do that either.
