The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, has been received this Saturday in audience by Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City, on the occasion of the IV Centenary of the Canonization of San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the city of Madrid. “He has asked us for unity, which is not the same as uniformity, that we think of the people ahead of ideologies, something with which I totally agree. You have to govern based on principles and values, but never on the basis of ideologies that make a grid management that does nothing more than divide the people”, the president explained to the media after the meeting.
“He has asked us to stop talking so much about the past and about wars and I couldn’t agree more”, added the president, who, for her part, transferred to the Papathe “affection and closeness” of the citizens of Madrid and to pray for everyone, especially for the most vulnerable people and those in difficult situations.
Isabel Díaz Ayuso has also mentioned that she has been talking about Madrid, a city and a region “popular and at the service of all” and Díaz Ayuso has assured that it has been an “unforgettable moment”. The president has traveled to Rome (Italy) with a delegation from Madrid in which the mayor of Madrid, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida; the Government delegate in Madrid, Mercedes González; and the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid, Carlos Osoro. The audience has lasted about half an hour and the president has given him a facsimile that includes the miracles of San Isidro Labrador.
Likewise, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will ask the Archdiocese of Madrid to transmit to the Pope Francisco the desire of the regional government for him to travel to the region. “We would like to transmit it to the Archdiocese of Madrid so that it can transmit it to them on behalf of the Government of the Community of Madrid and the City Council”, the president pointed out in the Plaza de San Pedro after being received by His Holiness in audience, at the Palace Apostolic Church of Vatican City, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the canonization of San Isidro Labrador, patron saint of the capital.
