One of Apple’s announcements, which the company has still not implemented, comes from the content area: by the end of 2022 at the latest, Apple Music Classical should actually appear as a separate app for friends of classical music in all areas. It is an extension of the Primephonic service, which Apple acquired in 2021, and is intended to significantly improve the use of this genre on the streaming service – including revised search and curating.
But since the first announcement of Apple Music Classical in August 2021, the iPhone producer has remained silent as to when it will finally start. Only now and then are there indirect indications that something is happening in Apple’s backend. Now traces have appeared again: The latest version of iOS contains direct information about Apple Music Classical.

Update 16.3 was released for the iPhone on Monday. Even in the beta was in it Apple Music Classical mentioned, as sleuths discovered on Twitter – initially with a placeholder (“A shortcut to Apple Classical”), now with the full name. There are strings in the official music app that indicate opening the (not yet available) application of the classic service: “Open in Apple Music Classical” is the name of the menu item that cannot yet be reached.
There are other strings with the term in various explanation screens in the app. Here there will be a hint that you can also find an artist “in the app that is made for classical music”. This shows that Apple seems to be continuing to work on Apple Music Classical and is making the necessary preparations – albeit with an uncertain outcome.
Hope for new HomePod
As mentioned, Apple does not publicly comment on Apple Music Classical. However, a possible launch date is now imminent: the second generation HomePod will be officially launched on February 3rd. That’s also when the company could launch its Classics service, since the Siri speakers — with their more voluminous sound than the HomePod mini — are adequate for the genre.
According to previous information, Apple does not plan to sell Apple Music Classical as an add-on. Instead, it should be part of the regular Apple Music subscription, which costs 11 euros. The Apple Music account can continue to be used normally in Apple Music Classical. It is unclear whether there is also a Mac and PC version of the application, but it would make sense.
