Javier Cárdenas narrates in his program, in Take it down OKwhat happened in Elda (Alicante), where a middle-aged man has undressed at the gates of the Town Hall to ask for a house and other types of financial aid after getting out of jail.
This is a former inmate who has spent 31 years in prison and who has three restraining orders for various assaults. This man has undressed at the gates of the consistory, screaming that he needs help and that he has nowhere to stay or sleep.
Now, he says, he wants a quiet life and to get away from the problems that led him to commit crimes and to prison. For his part, the City Council has assured that he went to the consistory on another occasion with an aggressive attitude. There, they explained to him that he could have a hotel room until he found accommodation because without permanent accommodation he cannot receive any kind of help. And it is that he wanted register with a home you cannot access because you have a restraint order.
Given what happened, several agents of the Elda Local Police quickly went to the scene and, after several minutes, managed to calm him down and get him to come down from the lamppost to later get dressed. The agents tried to reason with him so that he would ask for help through the appropriate channels.
He says that he is desperate because the social services do not listen to him and he does not want to go to the Red Cross because, according to his words, “he is not a drug addict or a foreigner.” For the moment, the City Council has managed the man’s access to one of the rooms of a hotel in the city until he finds a home.
