The Ceuta National Police has intercepted a drone loaded with drugs and several mobile phones in the Piniers I Minor Centeremergency accommodation that welcomes the unaccompanied foreign minors (mena) of Moroccan nationality who have remained in the autonomous city since the migratory invasion of May last year.
Agents from the Provincial Citizen Security Brigade observed the drone landing on the roof of one of the facility’s classrooms, located on the outskirts of the town, near the Ceuta penitentiary center. The remote control device was loaded with a hash plate, several phones and a charger.
As reported by the Superior Headquarters in a statement, the officials assigned to an ordinary patrol service in the vicinity of the Loma Mendizabal prison They noticed the presence of a drone “flying through the airspace near the prison” carrying a package attached to a rope.
The aircraft finally landed about 500 meters away from the penitentiary center, on the classrooms of the Children’s Centerwhere the agents found inside a transparent package “several mobile phones, a charger and a plate of narcotic substances, apparently hashish”.
The Provincial Brigade Scientific police has taken charge of the drone and the rest of the intervened elements to open the corresponding investigation.
The use of unmanned flying devices became during the more than two years that the Ceuta border in one of the most used procedures both for drug trafficking between both sides of the fence and for the introduction of prohibited objects in the local jail. During 2021 alone, the Civil Guard shot down “more than twenty” with mobile phones or drugs.
The local Comandancia de la Benemérita began in early May to use “in the testing phase” the two drones with thermal cameras which it acquired in February to “improve the surveillance service” of the city’s border perimeter.
