Thierry Baudet, candidate of the Dutch conservative party Forum for Democracy, has been attacked during a campaign event in a cafe north of Groningen, just two days before the general elections called early. A man has hit him on the head several times with a glass bottle.
Police officers have already detained a suspect. The leader of the Forum for Democracy was accompanied by other members of the party at the time of the attack. This has been confirmed by the party through its official profile on social networks:
«Thierry is heading to the UMCG (Groningen university hospital) after being attacked again at an event. It seems like everything will be fine. Baudet has been treated by a traumatologist. They hit him on the back of the head with a beer bottle and also on the edge of his temple, right next to his eye. A security guard also suffered facial injuries,” they reported.

The FvD candidate from the Netherlands had already been previously attacked on another occasion just a month ago. It happened during his visit to the University of Ghent, in Belgium, where a stranger hit him on the head, this time with an umbrella. Baudet then suffered a mild concussion.
Dutch politicians condemn him
Dutch politicians of all ideologies have condemned the attack. «It is totally unacceptable that Thierry Baudet has been attacked again. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again now: stay away from politicians. Always. I wish him a lot of strength and recovery, said the acting minister, Mark Rutte.
Frans Timmermans, leader of the left bloc, has declared that “violence is always unacceptable, and in a democracy it is discussed using words, this attack has no justification.”
