Paris kicked off the Christmas season on Sunday with a colored light ceremony on the famous Champs-Elysées avenue.
The dazzling Christmas lights were switched on by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Marc Antoine Jamet, president of the Champs-Elysées committee.
According to Jamet, “these lights are especially environmentally friendly” since the energy consumption of the lights is equivalent to a home with four people.
“Since 2007, we have managed to reduce electricity consumption by 98 percent through changes in processes, equipment and supplies,” he noted.
With a length of almost two kilometers, the Champs-Elysées is the best-known artery in Paris and one of the most famous avenues in the world.
