Twitter: X Premium users can allow DMs from other Premium customers
According to a tweet from Elon Musk, the short message service X (formerly Twitter) has introduced a new function. Users of the X Premium subscription (formerly Twitter Blue) can now activate direct messages (DM) from other paying premium customers. That shared Elon Musk on X with. From Musk’s perspective, the ability to “talk” to your favorite influencer is a good argument for subscribing to the paid premium service on X.

The function must be activated for message requests
According to the screenshot shared under the tweet, X premium users can enable message requests from other subscribers in Settings. The function also states that these settings are independent of the other message settings – they essentially overwrite them. In order to use the option to send a message request to your favorite influencer, they must also be an X Premium customer, have the function activated and probably also accept the request. Apparently this can also be blocked as before.
Musk wants to encourage X users to take the paid X Premium subscription with new functions. The advantages include longer posts including editing and longer videos in higher quality as well as preferential treatment “in rankings in conversations and in search” and less advertising. The subscription costs 99.96 euros annually or 9.52 euros per month – subscriptions taken out in the app on the smartphone are correspondingly more expensive.
20 million for influencers
Additionally, X Premium is a necessary requirement for the advertising revenue share for content creators announced in February. According to CEO Linda Yaccarino, nearly $20 million has now been paid out to tweet creators, shared Yaccarino on X with.
Payouts can be requested for tweets that have been viewed more than five million times in the past three months. She did not explain to whom and how much was paid out. In the past, however, there has been some criticism of the beneficiaries, who were mainly attributed to the politically conservative or right-wing spectrum. Some of the recipients themselves tweeted how much they had received from the social network. For some time now, advertising has been placed under a tweet in addition to the timeline and between replies. It is believed that checks were simply written out to people Musk liked in July.
“Plan to revive the social network”
All the statements, including Yaccarino’s announcement of profitability in a few months two days ago, come shortly before the CEO plans to meet with the seven banks that supported Musk in the takeover of Twitter. Yaccarino will next week “explain plans to revive the troubled social media company,” according to people familiar with the matter, according to the Financial Times.
Accordingly, Yaccarino has a concrete plan to increase advertising revenue and subscriptions. According to the report, daily active users currently amount to 245 million users. That’s a 3.7 percent decline since Musk bought Twitter last year, according to The Information.
According to the Financial Times, US revenue has fallen by 60 percent since the takeover – Musk has also made significant cuts in personnel. X itself claims that 90 percent of the world’s 100 largest donors in 2022 will have resumed their spending.
“She has to get rid of him”
A bank official at one of the lenders said they didn’t know how to win back advertisers as long as “Musk continues to stir up tensions on the platform” – X needs advertising dollars to come back. And further: “She has to get rid of him.”
On Friday, Elon Musk shared a post on his Musk’s comment: “Is the German public aware of this?” The The Foreign Office’s response to Musk’s question on X is: “Yes. And it’s called saving lives.” Presumably the banker was referring to precisely these tensions.
