Dozens of migrants jumped the border wall between Mexico and the United States in the city of Tijuana this Wednesday, taking advantage of the work being carried out on the structure, with dramatic images of young children crossing the wall.
Jumping the fence with children and babies in arms
In the afternoon, several migrants ran towards the fence to cross it under the helpless gaze of a police officer guarding the Mexican side. However, the most dramatic scenes occurred when some people crossed three minors over the wall, including a baby in their arms.
Other migrants carrying packages quickly crossed a wire fence and then climbed the wall, which in some sections is up to nine meters high.
Once they crossed, the migrants quickly ran towards US territory to surrender to the border patrol to request asylum.
While in Ciudad Juárez several migrants crossed the Río Bravo
Meanwhile, in the border city of Ciudad Juárez, several migrants were crossing the Rio Grande (called the Rio Grande in the United States), which had a higher flow than usual.
The migrants carried their belongings high up, with the water reaching the necks of several of them.
The Government of Mexico admits to being overwhelmed
The Government of Mexico has admitted to being overwhelmed by the number of migrants who cross its territory to reach the United States, the vast majority coming from Venezuela, Cuba and Central American countries.
In addition, it toughened measures to prevent the passage of irregular migrants through its territory using freight trains, after the largest local railway operator stopped 30% of its operations last week, overwhelmed by the flow of undocumented immigrants.
