The long-awaited Capcom top title “Resident Evil 4 Remake” will soon land on Apple devices. Apple communicated this at its keynote on the iPhone 15. Pre-orders for iPhone, iPad and Mac are now also possible. The title is expected to be released on December 21st. However, the price is likely to make you wide-eyed: the download is free, but thanks to in-app purchases you can pay a higher double-digit amount for Capcam if you want all the content.

“Console quality” costs
According to the in-app price list, which can already be viewed in the App Store, there are not only various “Weapon Upgrade Tickets” available for individual purchase for 2.99 euros, 6.99 euros and 9.99 euros, but also the entire game. This is called “RESIDENT EVIL 4 (With Bonus)” and is listed for 69.99 euros. This applies not only to the Mac, but also to the iPhone and iPad. In doing so, Capcom is setting the tone for what we can expect from “console-quality” games on Apple’s platforms in the future: they will obviously be full-price titles.
Apple also announced “Assassin’s Creed: Mirage”, “Death Stranding” and “Resident Evil Village”, which will be released for the iPhone in the future. For “Resident Evil 4 Remake,” the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the only Apple smartphones that support the game, so it requires the new SoC A17 Pro. Surprisingly, the requirements are lower for iPad and Mac; an M1 is sufficient here.
Fresh brew with hardware ray tracing
On iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Capcom delivers hardware-based ray tracing and also takes advantage of the improved GPU cores in the A17 SoC. “Resident Evil 4 Remake” is a fresh rehash of “Resident Evil 4” from 2005. It delivers modernized graphics, a story with new characters and partially changed gameplay with resource management. In addition to the “all inclusive” package for the game at the stated price of 69.99 euros, Capcom also delivers a DLC package (Downloadable Content) with extra content for 19.99 euros. This appears to be part of the most expensive package.
“Resident Evil 4 Remake” was released in the spring for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S and Windows. It received good reviews overall – even from the creator of the first version.
