There are five days left until the deadline to present amendments to the Education Law, a norm that will transform the educational system.
Next Tuesday ends the deadline for the presentation of amendments to the Education Bill of the Basque Country, prepared by the Basque Government based on the contents of the educational pact reached last year in the autonomous chamber.
Today, the EH Bildu parliamentarian Ikotz Arrese has called on the signatory parties of the educational pact – PNV, PSE-EE, Elkarrekin Podemos and the sovereign coalition itself – to act with “rigor” and “fidelity” to said agreement and to avoid attitudes ” short-term and partisan” in the final phase of the bill’s processing.
“We want to make a call to be faithful to the educational agreement and a call for rigor to have a high-quality political debate; and we appeal to all political parties and all parties to act in coherence,” he stated.
Arrese, in statements to journalists in the Basque Parliament, reviewed the upcoming milestones in the processing of the project in Parliament. In this way, and according to the coalition’s forecasts, after the deadline for submitting amendments closes next Tuesday, the debate on the entire amendments (if they are finally presented) would be held on October 19; and from there, the corresponding presentation would be launched to debate the partial amendments, which would carry out its work without a deadline.
In this context, and after emphasizing that this debate should not be delayed excessively, he specified that “hurry is not good.” In this way, Arrese has stated that he is not in a position to ensure that the new education law can be submitted to the final vote in plenary by the end of this year or the beginning of 2024.
