On November 9th it’s that time again: At the IT Security Day at the Westphalian University in Gelsenkirchen, security managers, security experts, hackers and IT project managers will find out which threats they currently have to keep on top of and how modern attack strategies can be circumvented . Like last year, the event is organized by the Institute for Internet Security – if(is) in cooperation with the heise Academy.

Many companies rely on a security operations center (SOC) as the linchpin for IT security. All information from the networks, servers and end devices as well as from the cloud and other assets come together there. A combination of automated anomaly detection technology and human intervention leads to effective responses to security incidents. However, not all companies can manage a SOC on their own – especially not around the clock. Find out how you can use a service provider and SOC-as-a-Service for security in your own company.
Workshop: Modern cyberattacks and future security measures
The starting signal for IT Security Day is a workshop on November 8th. Participants learn technical strategies for comprehensive security: from network and server levels to monitoring and logging. The workshop content is based on tried and tested procedures and provides an overview of how the security situation in your own company can be improved. Speakers and participants will discuss future-oriented measures to ensure the availability of the IT infrastructure. The focus topics are:
BCP Network Practices: Effective Security Measures for Routers, Firewalls, Switching and Cloud Instances (AWS). Secure SSH and VTY configurations and optimize VLAN architectures.BCP Server/Application Layer: Strategies for securing server operating systems and applications, minimizing attack surfaces, and best practices for containerized applications.Monitoring: SNMP strategies for improved network monitoring, Agent performance and flow-based monitoring and single-pane strategies.Logging: Looking at different log sources, with a focus on ElasticSearch. Optimizing the query frontend and data enrichment strategies.
And otherwise?
At the IT Security Day, our experts will guide you through the modern security landscape, reveal current attack vectors and help with advice and strategies on the best defense methods. This is still on the agenda:
How to protect against DDoS attacks?Optimal backup strategies for ransomware incidentsTips for vulnerability managementRisks and potential through ChatGPT and Co.Modern end device protection and zero trust philosophyNew framework conditions through NIS2
Are the topics relevant to you and your company? The early bird ticket is available until October 13th for 199 euros (including VAT). Further information about the workshop will be available shortly on the Security Day website.
