Two young people of Spanish origin have been arrested by agents of the National Police for beating a tourist in Playa de Palma to rob him, giving him strong blows to the head until he left him unconscious. They are accused of the crime of robbery with violence.
As explained by the Higher Headquarters in the Balearic Islands through a statement, the events occurred last Saturday, at 3 in the morning, on the beachfront. Apparently, the tourist sat on the wall that delimits the pedestrian zone from the sand of the beach. Meanwhile, two young men who were riding a scooter stood watching him about five meters away from him. Then, one of them approached behind the tourist and grabbed him by the neck, performing the mataleón technique.
Two other young people from the group immediately intervened, who began to hit the tourist all over his body, mainly
through the head, leaving him unconscious. Once with the victim on the ground and
Senselessly, the thieves stole a mobile phone, a shoulder bag containing money and other objects.
At that moment, a camouflaged patrol from the Response Operational Group
of the National Police who were near the area approached the
cluster. The two agents identified themselves as police officers and stopped the young people, who fled the scene, although they managed to intercept those who violently beat the victim.
The two young people, who put up great resistance and violence against the
agents, were finally subdued and arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime of robbery with violence. Both were carrying the tourist’s belongings, which were recovered and delivered to the victim. Due to the severity of his injuries, he had to be transferred to a hospital. The investigation remains open and new arrests are not ruled out.
