After remembering that they already started this course with “complaints” for the “precariousness” of their working conditions and calls to defend their rights, ELA, LAB, CC. OO. and Steilas have denounced “the interested interpretation and application” by the rector’s team.
The unions ELA, LAB, CC. OO. and Steilas have called a strike on October 11 to denounce the precariousness of the teaching and research staff at the UPV/EHU.
Representatives of these four union centers appeared this Wednesday in the Plaza Mikel Laboa on the campus of the Basque public university in Leioa (Bizkaia) to announce both the strike and to make known the reasons that led them to call this strike.
After remembering that they already began this course with “complaints” about the “precariousness” of their working conditions and calls to defend their rights, the unions have denounced “the interested interpretation and application”, by the governing team, of the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU), since it has had “a direct impact on the new contracts of substitute teaching staff, which in most cases, from now on, will be part-time and with precarious salaries.”
At this point, the convening unions have stressed that this “deterioration” of their working conditions “is not just a matter of now, which only affects substitute teachers, but is something that we have been suffering for a long time and that affects us all.” Teaching and Research Personnel (PDI)”.
In his opinion, this deterioration has “structural reasons” and is related, above all, “to the lack of adequate financing of the Basque public university.”
They have also mentioned the delays of weeks and even months in the incorporation of substitute teaching staff or that the non-substituted workload “falls on the rest of the teaching staff or forces them to join groups, to the detriment of the quality of teaching.”
On the other hand, and as in other sectors of the Public Service, the four unions have denounced that the UPV/EHU workers have seen the value of their salaries reduced “year after year” since the salary increases of recent years “have not, in any way, compensated for the rise in the cost of life.
