Some European top-level domain operators have made it their mission to improve cybersecurity. They have now launched the website www.tld-isac.eu, which is intended to provide information on security and serve as an “Information Sharing and Analysis Center” for the exchange of information.

The European Center for Information Exchange and Analysis of Top Level Domains, as the association calls itself in German, wants to build a resource library on the website. The contributions are intended to be prepared by experts from the TLD-ISAC working group. The project operators cite articles on maturity measurement, DDoS attacks on authoritative servers and the use of firewalls as well as the use of unpatched DNS servers in internal networks as initial examples.
TLD ISAC: Promote security of TLDs
The stated goal of the website is to improve the security and resilience of top level domains in Europe. The operators want to achieve this by exchanging information and promoting collaboration and the sharing of best practices.
The European Center for Information Exchange and Analysis of Top Level Domains is intended to bring together operators of domain registries, security experts and unspecified other interest groups. They are supposed to exchange information about threats, identify new trends and develop measures to prevent and defend against cyber attacks.
Later expansion planned
So far it is a merger of several European top-level domain operators and registrars, such as Nominet, DNS Belgium or Denic eG. Denic board member Thomas Keller is quoted as saying that the project is intended to make the expertise of top-level domain operators across Europe available to everyone.
The project receives support from Centr, the association of European ccTLD (country code top level domain) registries. The TLD ISAC wants to take on cooperation partners later – those interested should contact the steering committee or the chairmen of the working groups.
