The CDU wants to take action against private cell phones in primary schools. According to CDU party deputy Karin Prien, who is also Education Minister in Schleswig-Holstein, the increasing media consumption of younger children is a danger. Accordingly, the CDU has taken a position on this issue in a new position paper, reports the dpa.

Basically exclude cell phone use
According to the CDU’s wishes, private cell phone use should be fundamentally excluded in primary schools. Prien explained this on Monday after meetings of the CDU top committees.
“We believe that school must be a space in which children can not only learn freely, but in which they can also have sensible social contacts,” said Prien. It is not good if children have access to bullying or videos glorifying violence via platforms, networks and messenger services. Schools could make specific rules and also involve parents, explained Prien.
The CDU is also in favor of better integration between daycare centers and schools. Linguistic and mathematical skills in primary school need to be promoted more. That means more lessons in mathematics and German and mandatory reading times in primary schools. At the same time, better digital education with key digital skills is also necessary.
