c’t Workshop: Introduction to GitLab

The software development platform GitLab is based on the Git version management and its range of functions. One of the central advantages of GitLab over competing systems: The platform is based on open source and is also available in an open source version. If you want, you can host the system yourself for free – interesting for anyone who doesn’t want to entrust their code to a third-party cloud environment.

In the c’t workshop “Introduction to GitLab”, administrators learn in practical exercises what they need to know to operate their own GitLab instance; from installation to basic configuration to adaptation to individual requirements. They can also gain experience with the regular operation of the instance and practice rolling out and updating using the containerized version of GitLab.

Virtual machine with GitLab for everyone

To take part in the practical exercises, each participant will be provided with a virtual machine with GitLab. The event takes place online. A current web browser is required to participate and access the personal GitLab instance.
