Luis Barbero, new deputy director of the newspaper EL PAÍS.PACO PUENTES
The director of EL PAÍS, Pepa Bueno, has appointed Luis Barbero as deputy director of the newspaper. Barbero, born in Madrid 53 years ago, has a degree in Political Science from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master’s degree in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Madrid – EL PAÍS. He has spent his entire professional life in EL PAÍS. In 1995 he joined the newspaper’s headquarters in Andalusia in Seville. There he began following political, economic and court information. In 2007 he was appointed subdelegate and, a year later, he became head of the delegation. In 2015 he was assigned to Miami as a correspondent. Back in Spain he has held different positions of responsibility in sections such as Spain, breaking news, the paper edition team or the web desk. Since the end of 2021, he has served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper’s Editing Unit, which is in charge of preparing the paper newspaper to advance digitalization and supervising and improving the quality of the texts on the EL website. Likewise, the director has appointed Ana Lorite as editor-in-chief of the Editing Unit. Lorite, born in Madrid 58 years ago, has a degree in Hispanic Philology from the Complutense University of Madrid and a postgraduate degree in Digital Documentation from the Pompeu Fabra University. She was deputy head of Documentation until 2010, when she moved to the editorial staff to perform editing tasks at El País América. She worked as a cover artist on the website until she was required again for editing duties in the National section. In 2018 she took charge of a new section, Web Edition. In 2020, she launched the Editing Unit together with Álex Grijelmo, which has since then been in charge of the printed edition and in 2022, when the complete digitization of EL PAÍS was decided, she fully assumed the management of the paper edition.
Teresa Fuente (Madrid, 59 years old) has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Printed Edition. Fuente has a degree in journalism from the San Pablo CEU University. She began her career in 1985 in the newspaper Ya, in the Clothing section. In 1988 she joined EL PAÍS, where she has held different positions of responsibility in the Clothing section. Since 2008 she served as section head. In her more than 30 years of experience at the newspaper, she has participated in several of the redesigns of the printed edition.
As established in the Editorial Statute, the three appointments were put to a vote.
