Jorge Prado is mathematically the new MXGP world champion, the premier motocross category. The 22-year-old Spanish driver has achieved it after competing in the first round of the Italian Grand Prix. The one from Lugo, the first Spanish motocross champion, benefited from the abandonment due to mechanical problems of the Frenchman Romain Febvre, who was the only one who could take the crown from him and who suffered a fall from which he could not recover.

Prado, who had already been MX2 champion in 2018 and 2019, accumulates 875 points this season, 93 more than Febvre when only the second round of the Italian event and the British Grand Prix remain to be played. The Spaniard dominated this Sunday’s race from the beginning and was able to retain the lead until the end of the competition, ahead of the Swiss Jeremy Seewer, who finished in second position.
“It was my dream since I was a child, I pushed hard. They didn’t tell me anything! I didn’t know that he was champion, he would have crossed the bike more when he reached the finish line. “I couldn’t imagine this at the beginning of the season,” said the Lugo rider as soon as he got off the bike.
